North of Hawks Nest/Tea Gardens, the Great Lakes region stretches to the brilliant beaches of Forster and Tuncurry. Inland, wilderness overlooks verdant farmland, and elegant Stroud conserves a convict-built townscape. Relics of a mining and timber-cutting past lie upon the floors of thousands of hectares of state forests and national parks and scenic lookouts offer spectacular vistas to take your breath away.
Come to the Great Lakes and revel in holiday adventures year round: surfing, whale sighting, swimming with the dolphins and bushwalks through sun-dappled rainforest. Savour fresh seafood straight from the fishing trawlers, Wallis Lake's mouth watering oysters and a bottle of local wine. Make the most of Great Lakes' stunning galleries, historic museums and lively events. For children, fun parks, playgrounds, horse rides and parks offer extra diversions.
Bulahdelah marks the main entrance to the Myall Lakes and has a deep water boat ramp, boat hire and accommodation. Bulahdelah Mountain Park hosts a number of walks of varying grades, a narrow 4WD road up Alum Mountain as well as barbecue and picnic facilities.
20 kilometres south of Forster, the Pacific Palms coastal paradise is set amidst the sparkling lakes, splendid beaches and lush greenery of spectacular forests. Clear water and irresistible surf beckon water lovers to the local sun-drenched beaches. Nestled between the shoreline and rolling hills lie Wallis and Smiths Lakes, perfect for windsurfing, sailing and fishing. The little village of Coomba Park is a pleasant half-hour scenic drive around Wallis Lake or a fifteen-minute cruise from Forster.
Extend your stay and visit the nearby fishing village of Seal Rocks, accessed by a pleasant drive through Myall Lakes National Park. Picnic or surf at Lighthouse and Treachery beaches or stroll to the lighthouse grounds and be rewarded with a panoramic view of the coastline.

In the emerald shallows of Wallis Lake, beneath the bridge that links Forster and Tuncurry, dolphins play on their way to and from the sea. Wallis Lake is home to a thriving oyster industry. Renowned for their flavour, these oysters can be purchased at the local fish co-operative or straight from the oyster growers. Above the water, good humoured pelicans line Cape Hawke Harbour, home of New South Wales' second biggest fishing district.

Make the most of your stay in Forster or Tuncurry and choose from a variety of activities. Dolphin and whale watching cruises, diving and deep sea fishing charters, scenic lake cruises, boat hire, waterside dining and lakeside boardwalks, make the most of the Great Lakes' unique natural environment. And for land lovers, there are arts, crafts and antique galleries, 4WD tours, horse riding, beach and bush walks, movies, golf, ten-pin bowling, forest drives, scenic flights, bowls, tennis and club entertainment to keep you busy.

Venture into the Great Lakes hinterland where a picturesque region of wilderness, lush countryside, farms and pretty villages awaits you. Nabiac is home to several galleries, a motorcycle museum, eateries and accommodation.

The Great Lakes' artists and craftspeople, inspired by their region's littoral rainforest, wave-wracked coastline, high country and tranquil lakes, exhibit their work around the region. The Great Lakes' many galleries, museums and historical sites tell stories as diverse as those of the Worimi people, reminders of the region's fishing, timber and shipbuilding heritage and our motoring past. Stroud and District Historical Society houses a museum in "Quambi", a convict-built house of the 1830s.

Stay awhile in the Great Lakes - we're keeping it natural...just for you.
