The Riverina District is located in the south west of New South Wales along the Murrimbudgee River. The Riverina is steeped in history, including that of migrant farmers who forged the fruit and wine industries of the area. There are many examples of 1800s architecture and numerous museums telling the story of the people of the Riverina. Famous for its towns of Griffith, Leeton, Narrandera, Wagga Wagga the Riverina has many activities available from water sports, golf and cricket to art, theatre and festivals and was the birthplace of cricketer Sir Donald Brandman, born in Cootamundra in 1908.
Riverina is the place to experience country life; an area abundant with flora and fauna. Take one of the many walks or visit one of the historic museums, or try your hand at fishing (make sure you obtain a license first). The Riverina is Australia’s food bowl producing products including wheat, rice, grapes, tomatoes and lots more and is well recognised for the many wineries throughout the area.
Please remember the Riverina District is part of the ‘Fruit Fly’ exclusion zone; to avoid a fine dispose of fruits (including tomato) in the bins provided.
